Engineering for LEED Certification
In 1998, the U.S. Green Building Council created a rating system called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, for commercial and residential buildings. A LEED-certified building conforms to certain standards centering on water efficiency, indoor air quality, energy and atmosphere, and more. Not only can LEED certification make a building stand out from the rest, but it is also cost effective.
Most building owners recognize the ineffiencies in energy and water through their utility bills, but they do not realize that there are very simple, inexpensive solutions that can lower their cost immediately. A recent Energy Analysis which DFW Consulting Group conducted showed one of the simplest solution is to renegotiate the existing electricity plan which could have an anticipated annual savings of $50,000. In fact, newer technology makes it easier for building owners to receive a comprehensive look at parts of their building they did not previously consider.
