Imaging Center at Park Cities Medical Plaza

Location:   Dallas, Texas

Approximate Square Footage:  7,100

The imaging center included several pieces of imaging equipment including MRI, CT Scan and Nuclear Medicine equipment.

Detailed coordination with multiple consultants took place during the design of the equipment rooms. All parties discussed their specific needs and worked together to provide a design that met all requirements.

Specifically, the MRI was the toughest piece of equipment to design. The equipment is essentially a giant magnet, therefore it must be shielded from the remaining spaces by a lead wall. HVAC for this room was provided by the shell building system, and so openings in these lead walls to allow the ductwork to enter the room had to be carefully coordinated with all parties involved. Standard sheet metal ductwork, lights, and outlets could not be used in the MRI room: specialty items had to be specified. All items were reviewed by the MRI and lead wall vendors.

Flexibility in the MEP design approach before, during, and after the construction documents were completed was the key to the project's success. Working together with each consultant, designer, and contractor to coordinate important details allowed this project to meet the goals and the schedule of the client.
