DFW Consulting Group, Inc. designed a new 8,000 kW, 4160 volt generator facility designed to support an 18-story highly-critical telecommunications facility serving Ft. Worth's 911 and central business district.
DFW Consulting Group's challenge was to integrate a new 4,160 volt and 480 volt distribution system into the facility without power interruption of the critical loads. We designed a new standalone normal and emergency power distribution system. The design utilized a multi-phase approach, which was carefully detailed on the construction drawings. This allowed the new system to be tested and commissioned in its entirety before any live loads were being served. Once the new system was fully functional and operational, each of the 84 separate loads was transferred over to the new system.
Project highlights:
- Parallel operation with the utility company to avoid equipment interruptions during load transfers to and from standby generators. closed-transition transfer
- Four 2,000 kW generators weighing 75,000 lbs. located on the 13th floor roof.
- Fully redundant multiple workstation monitoring and control system.
- Replacement of entire building switchgear infrastructure without disruption of critical operations.
