AT&T Data Center

Location: Dallas, Texas

Approximate square footage: 500,000+

This project is a campus facility which consists of five multi-story buildings in a downtown city environment. There are five buildings: one is a data center, another is the parking structure which is home to the chiller plant and the remaining three are primarily administration offices. DFW Consulting Group, Inc. has been involved with the data center for over 10 years, constantly maintaining and updating the systems.

There have been several modifications to the buildings infrastructure to allow for all of these projects to take place. A series of utility tunnels have been added between buildings to allow for the routing of mechanical piping and electrical conduits. The plaza between buildings was redesigned to hide but also to house the generator tank fuel system. There have also been several interior modifications to allow for expansion of the UPS and battery systems as well as for Switchgear additions and upgrades.

The electrical system is made up of several components to provide redundancy and reliability. One of the projects required an update to the Emergency System and the three buildings which it supplies with a Closed Transition System.

The mechanical system is also very complex in nature. There is one central Chiller Plant that is capable of providing chilled water to the entire campus. The Chiller Plant is comprised of five chillers. In normal operation, the Chiller Plant is capable of providing 5600 tons with one chiller for redundancy. The system is made up of one 800 Ton Chiller, three 1600 Ton Chillers, one 2000 Ton Chiller and fourteen 600 Ton Cooling Towers .

We continue to provide services on an as needed basis. We currently are responsible for monitoring the Emergency Generator System and UPS loads. We track the loads on a monthly basis to insure adequate time is available for system expansion and/or upgrades.
