DFW International Airport, International Terminal D

Location: DFW International Airport

Approximate square footage: 2,000,000

The new International Terminal D is a two million-square foot terminal capable of handling 32,000 passengers daily or 11.7 million passengers annually. The terminal has 99 ticketing positions and a federal inspection facility capable of processing 2,800 passengers per hour. The concession areas consist of 100,000 square feet and will feature upscale shopping and fine dining. An arrivals canopy roof will shield pedestrians from inclement weather as they enter and exit the terminal. A Grand Hyatt Hotel will be integrated in the terminal and a new garage will have plenty of room for parking guests.

DFW Consulting Group jointly designed the air-conditioning and electrical systems. Our design included sizing large air handling unit and duct work layouts, electrical distribution, and the data communications for the airport’s flight information display systems. The HVAC system was sized for approximately 7,500 tons of air-conditioning served by over 100 chilled water variable air handling units. The building is served by ten 4,000 amp, 480 volt electrical services provided by the utility company.

In addition, DFW Consulting Group designed the MEP systems for several of the concessionaires and integrated the design into the terminal’s base air-conditioning system.
